This design is based off the flying F of the Feildian Hockey Team sweater from the 1921 Senior St. John's Hockey League Boyle Challenge Cup winning team. 
 
A winged letter or symbol was very popular in hockey sweater design during this era. The F was given wings on both sides to give it a tight symetrical look. 
 
The Feildians Athletic Association in Newfoundland has fielded teams in a wide vatiety of sports including soccer, basketball, hockey, cricket, track and field, baseball and even bowling.
 
Their latin motto “Mens sana in corpore sano” (a healthy mind in a healthy body)
